
Mary Pat Traxler, PhD
Licensed Psychologist
Mary Pat Traxler is a licensed psychologist who works with adults at all life stages, as
well as children (8+), teens and their families. As a generalist, she helps clients with a wide
range of concerns. Some of her special interests include anxiety disorders such as
panic, chronic worry and obsessive-compulsive disorder; depressive disorders including
post-partum depression; mindfulness and meditation; and coping with high pressure
jobs and burnout. Dr. Traxler also enjoys helping clients navigate cultural transition
and adjustment, and the transition to retirement, parenthood, marriage, the workplace,
or a new city.
Dr. Traxler relies on empirical research, together with cognitive-behavioral and insight-oriented approaches, to guide her work. Her therapy approach is respectful, professional, solution-focused, warm and caring. She values collaboration, drawing on her experience, training, and skills while simultaneously valuing and trusting her clients' expertise about their own lives.
Education
Dr. Traxler has over 20 years of experience working in medical, educational and private practice settings. Her Ph.D. and Masters degrees in Psychology (with Clinical and Social Psychology Specializations) are from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Traxler's practical training took place at the University of Illinois, the University of Chicago, and the Boys Town Center for Behavioral Health in Nebraska. She has a nuanced understanding of cultural issues as a result of specialized study, and having lived and worked in Germany and New Zealand.
