Life Traps/Schema Groups--You're Not Special In A Bad Way

Date: Ongoing (Please call to be added to group list)
Time: Wednesdays 8:00AM-9:15AM
Thursdays 5:15PM-6:30PM
Location: 7617 Mineral Point Road, Ste. 300
Group Leader(s): Ray Koziol,
PhD

Details:The LIFE TRAPS/SCHEMA group is an ongoing weekly group designed for people who feel "stuck" repeating familiar negative patterns. These patterns are called schemas or "life traps. Schemas develop because the absence of positive experiences and presence of negative experiences in childhood prevent the core emotional needs of childhood from being made. Maladaptive schemas lead to mood disorders, workplace and educational dysfunction, and relationship problems. They also suppress our educational and career potentials, diminish our ability to love and be loved, and prevent us from developing our own brand of happiness.

Schemas are critical to understand because they determine how we interpret or perceive the world. They organize how we think, feel, act, and relate to others. Schemas become a part of who we are and feel unchangeable. They also drive our self defeating behaviors. As a result, we often believe "we are special in a bad way" and feel we are unlovable.

Dr. Koziol is presently considered one of the most experienced group schema therapists in the world. He has facilitated over 2,400 group schema therapy sessions in the past 17 years. Schema therapy is a holistic approach to treatment. Dr. Koziol's application of schema therapy integrates cognitive, behavioral, and interpersonal therapies with mindfulness principles, positive psychology, and the research literature on human happiness. If you are interested, please contact your therapist at The Psychology Center (608) 833-9290, Ray Koziol at extension 361, or email us at This email address is being protected from spambots.
